Late Night Roundup: Graduation Day

Late Night Roundup: Graduation Day

Larry Wilmore looked at the recent follies of high school graduation season — starting in Mississippi, where parents are actually being charged with disturbing the peace for the act of cheering on their kids at a local graduation. (And of course, the parents are black, and the school superintendent who brought the charges is white.)

Larry also put a spotlight on the recent story of Evan Young, a high school valedictorian in Colorado who was not allowed by the principal to deliver his graduation speech because he would announce that he was gay. (Moreover, the principal told Evan’s parents all about it.) So to make it up, Larry brought Evan on the show — to deliver the speech to a national audience, instead. However, even here there ended up being a hitch or two.

Jon Stewart looked at the ever-expanding field of presidential candidates: Lincoln Chafee with the metric system; Rick Perry and his endless stream of brain glitches; and Jeb Bush, who still keeps refusing to actually say he’s a presidential candidate — so that he can keep raising unlimited amounts of money.

Seth Meyers also highlighted Jeb’s continued flouting of campaign finance law — and the fact that the Federal Election Commission is (practically by design) too dysfunctional to do anything about it.
